Lahey Clinic appointed two new clinical chairmen. Zoher Ghogawala, MD, FACS, was named the Charles A. Fager Chair of Neurosurgery, while Lifei Guo, MD, PhD, FACS, was named the chair of the Clinic’s plastic and reconstructive surgery department.

Lahey Clinic has been named one of the nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals by Thomson Reuters, and the only such hospital recognized in the Boston-area. The Thomson Reuters study examined the performance of more than 1,000 hospitals by analyzing outcomes for patients with heart failure and heart attacks and for those who received coronary bypass surgery and percutaneous coronary interventions such as angioplasties.

The Northeast Health System (NHS) Board of Trustees announced on July 19 that, by unanimous vote, it has accepted the recommendation of its Affiliation Advisory Committee that Northeast Health System affiliate with Lahey Clinic through the formation of a new organization.

Dr. Delong, a urology resident at Lahey, will unveil findings related to a urine-based assay that holds promise for detecting and characterizing bladder cancer in a non-invasive manner.

Lahey Clinic will hold its sixth annual Cancer Walk on Saturday morning, June 4, at two of its locations, Burlington and Peabody, to raise funds to support patient care coordination and access to services. This year a 5K run has been added to the Burlington campus location at 41 Mall Road. Lahey Clinic Medical Center, North Shore, will hold its walk at the Northshore Mall in Peabody.

The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons again has granted Lahey Clinic’s Sophia Gordon Cancer Center a full three-year accreditation with commendation.

Lahey Clinic ranked seventh best Boston-area hospital by U.S. News. The new rankings recognize hospitals in or near major American cities with a record of high performance in key medical specialties. US News ranked Lahey as “high performing” in cancer, diabetes & endocrinology, ear, nose & throat, gastroenterology, geriatrics, gynecology, kidney disorders and orthopaedics.
